Where Flowers Bloom

Hoa Mọc Ở Đâu

Medium    Video Art, Digital Sculpture, Adapted Installation

Year      2025

Where Flowers Bloom is a multidisciplinary series exploring queer identity and growth within the neglected socio-physical landscape of Thịnh Liệt, a fringe district in Hanoi. The work navigates a domestic history marked by traditional expectations and paternal absence, seeking to find space for the "self" within an environment of systemic and familial constraint.

Utilizing the recontextualization of digital archives, the project employs "digital grafting" to stitch disparate memories into a fictional present. Through this process of speculative archiving, the artist allows past versions of the self to inhabit a state of joy previously denied to them. By altering the digital record, the work offers a method of reinterpreting the past to facilitate a transformative future.

Note: This work was adapted by the Bui Tre Collective into a physical installation for the group exhibition "Soft Organisms Hard Urbanization" at Xem Gallery.
